Schedule compliance
% of plan delivered
Schedule compliance = scheduled work completed ÷ work scheduled. It measures how well the plan was followed.
Break-in ratio = break-in work ÷ total work executed (scheduled completed + break-in). It shows how much reactive work is displacing the plan.
A mature planning and scheduling process usually targets 85 to 90%+ compliance, with break-in trending down as reliability improves.
Why it matters
Schedule compliance is one of the clearest signs of how mature a maintenance function is. Work that's planned and scheduled ahead of time is cheaper, safer and quicker than the same job done on the fly, because the parts are kitted, the permits are sorted and the crew knows what they're walking into. Compliance measures how much of that prepared work actually survives the week.
Read it next to break-in and it tells you something about reliability. A schedule that keeps getting torn up by reactive work is both a symptom of unreliable assets and a cause of more failures, because the preventive jobs are the first to get bumped. Lift compliance and push break-in down and you get a good loop going. The plan holds, preventive work gets done, and the firefighting slowly turns into controlled, proactive work.
